The Sony NW-HD5 20GB Walkman - A Great Start But a Horrible Finish By Ross MacIvar

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

The Sony network Walkman has a storage capability of no less then 20GB and its battery power is sufficient for more then 40 hours of continuous music. It’s small, certainly compared to its storage capacity. The Walkman has a slim aluminum case that fits nicely into your hands. It really looks like a cool state of the art piece of technology.

The operation of the Sony NW-HD5 is very intuitive. Still this Walkman comes with a lot op options. The hard-disk of the Walkman is equipped with the so-called “G-Sensor” technology that protects it to sudden shocks and movements. The clear 1.5 inch dot matrix LCD screen is nicely illuminated at will. So you see there are plenty of pluses with this device.

But on the minus side there are some, in our opinion unforgivable, omissions. The equalizer and performance improving capabilities will only work if you play Sony’s own ATRAC3 files. You can only add music to the player by using the program SonicStage that converts WMA files automatically to the Sony ATRAC3 standard. Using the Windows Explorer to manage your files is almost impossible. And to top it all off, if you want to be able to use the NW-HD5 with multiple computers you will have to register with Sony’s own music service. Otherwise that is off limits. Finally, the NW-HD5 has no remote control.

Let’s face it the Sony NW-HD5 is a nice piece of technology, but by adding so many limitations and conditions on its usage this device loses all of its attraction. Our advice is: “Let Sony know that we don’t like the limitations they impose on us by buying another player”.

It just doesn’t make sense that Sony is trying to force consumers into using their standards and placing a multitude of limitations on them if they don’t want to comply.

iPod Nano Product Review; Good Things do Come in Small Packages By Lance Winslow

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

The ultra slim iPod Nano is not much bigger than a couple of credit cards set end to end and about as wide as a pencil. When the iPod Nano was first shown in a high tech gadget website, no one even believed it was real, how could it be, where was the battery? How could that little thing hold any songs in it? Most thought it was merely another Apple gimmick, not so, the iPod Nano is really and yes it is really cool. Most personal tech writers are giving it the first prize for the 2005 greatest gadget.

The iPod Nano has two configurations; the two gigabyte version which hold 500 songs and the four gigabyte version which holds 1,000 songs. Of course for this level of performance is such a small device, well lets just say you are going to have to pay the price. The down dirty model is $199.00 and the prices go up from there. The iPod Nano is as thin as a pencil and as powerful as juke box.

How small is it? Very small; only three and a half inches by an inch and a half and the width of a number two pencil. And get this it only weighs 1.5 ounces. But don’t lose it, as anything that small is bound to get lost. The LCD custom screen is also about the coolest thing you ever saw, it is very bright and one and a half inches.

The battery life of this thing is over 12 hours and the new Apple Patented click wheel makes it extremely easy to use. The iPod Nano also has all the ports and docking connectors needed to integrate it just like you would any other iPod. Let’s face it you need this to get through 2006.

iPod Mini Product Review, It Is Only Small In The Name By Lance Winslow

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

The Christmas so many of the most popular iPod Models sold out, with some stores forced thru customer demand and hostility at times; to make waiting lists, when the new stock came in. Why are so many iPod Models sold out? Well, Apple started a new craze, which is without borders and age groups niches. Everyone wants the new iPods and many have their sites on the iPod Mini, yes it is small, but only in size and name.

The iPod Mini comes in four gigabytes and six gigabytes and that is approximately 1000 songs and 1500 songs respectfully. The prices are not too bad, but most places are sold out until mid January to early February and many stores already have waiting lists, which exceed their estimated new stock shipments. The earbud earphones are excellent and make it very pleasurable to take a walk around the block or jog thru the park with ease, no discomfort at all. The backlit screen and customizable menu make it very favorable compared to other versions.

The iPod Mini comes with an 8-hour battery life, which could be longer, especially if you go hiking for the weekend and do not have a place to plug in for a recharge. But all in all there are few complaints from those who own them, most reviews give the iPod Mini very high marks indeed. So you need this in 2006.

Stun Guns: What Are They, How They Work By Olga Timbol

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

How does a stun gun work?

The way a stun gun works is by interrupting the communication signals from the brain to the body. A stun gun does not harm a person permanently; it only temporarily disrupts the way our body functions. A stun gun won’t cause damage in the long run because the electricity that it delivers into a person’s body is very high voltage but low amperage electrical charge. In this way, the charge is not intense enough to cause any long term damage to the person.

So when you press the stun gun against a person and deliver the shock to them, a few things happen contributing to their following [stunned] condition. The electric shock delivered by the stun gun will combine with the electric signals from the brain and this will confuse your body and make it hard to move. Another effect the stun gun can have is causing a person to do excessive amounts of work directed towards nothing in a particularly short period of time. This will use all of the persons energy so that they will temporarily be unable to do anything.

When triggered, the stun gun emits a bright electrical blast that is quite intimidating and makes a very loud popping noise that will attract the attention of anyone within earshot.

Which is better? Stun Gun or Stun Baton?

I would have to say the Stun Baton as it has plenty of stopping power and will shock an attacker if he tries to grip it from you 6″ down from the tip-top. Or if you don’t want something so large, go with the cell phone stun gun. The cell phone stun gun is the neatest stun gun I ever seen and it has plenty of raw power to back it up 180,000 volts plus a personal alarm all in one.

How do I use a stun gun?

To use a stun gun, hold the electrodes firmly against a muscular area of the attackers body such as a shoulder, thigh, or buttocks. You will not receive a shock even if you are touching the person being stunned. To completely subdue the attacker, the stun gun must be continuously applied for a few seconds. More time is required if the person is large, or you are using a low voltage model.

Can Stun Guns be Lethal?

Stunguns can’t be lethal they don’t have enough amperage to kill someone. They only effect the regular muscles in your body not the vital organs such as the heart or any of those organs. They just temporarily stun your muscles and makes a person fall to the ground and make it feel like they fell off a 2 story building and they are very confused and disoriented for minutes afterward. Stun guns do not kill. However, on persons with a heart condition or other medical problems, it is possible. Just as possible as someone sneaking up behind a person with a heart condition and saying ‘BOO’ in his ear.

What are the types of stun guns?

Three types of stun gun weapons are made for retail. The first is a static charge gun which immobilizes people by using an electric current powered by static charge. The second gadget is called a Phase Induction gun, which delivers a charge to living creatures through an electric current achieved through phase induction. The final type of stun gun is the T-Wave gun. This device disrupts the brain’s signals to the body by means of an electric current completed with EMD (Electro-Muscular Disruption).

1. Static charge. Range in volts is between 80,000 and 625,000. Uses 9-20 watts. 80,000-100,000 volts stun guns use one 9 volt battery and 200,000-625,000 volts stun guns use two or three 9 volt batteries.

2. Phase Induction delivery. Range in volts is from 100,000 to 625,000. Uses 7-15 watts. This type of stun guns (Talon brand) uses more effective and efficient delivery of the shock. A 200,000 volts stun gun using phase induction delivery is equivalent to a 300,000 volts stun gun which uses static charge.

3. Electro-Muscular Disruption - EMD - is used in tasers. It’s amore powerful 18-26 watt electrical system. The air taser gun looks like a pistol but uses compressed air to fire two darts that trail electric cable back to the handset. When the darts strike, a five-second 50,000 volt charge is released down the cable, causing the assailant’s muscles to contract uncontrollably. The taser causes temporary paralysis and research suggests there is little permanent risk to health. A laser helps target the assailant and taser works at ranges up to 21 ft. Electrical signals - taser waves or T-waves - overpower the body’s normal electrical signals, temporarily confusing the nervous system.

Advanced taser guns have the advantage of being able to get through thick clothing. If the darts miss, there are two probes in front of the weapon, allowing the unit to be used as a stun weapon. Because these weapons affect the central nervous system by imitating the electrical impulses used to communicate within the human body, a hit anywhere on the body can be effective. Thus, the ADVANCED TASER is much easier to use than sprays or even firearms that require a hit to a specific zone of the body. Air Cartridges are not reusable. You have to replace them after each shooting. Therefore, use Advanced Taser only in emergency situations (unless you have a lot of money to spend for buying cartridges).

The Benefits of Non Piercing Body Jewelry By Sal Dante

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Piercing has been practiced in many cultures for many centuries. Body piercing was often identified with royalty and portrayed courage and virility. Egyptian pharaohs pierced their navels as a rite of passage. Roman soldiers pierced their nipples to show their manhood. Piercings aren’t just done to ears. People have their nipples, navels, eyebrows, clitoris hoods, penises, labia, and other body parts pierced, and bits of metal permanently in the piercings. Some even say that nipple piercing can cause problems with nursing because there are many milk ducts in an average nipple, so the chances are good that nursing can still happen, but nothing is certain

Here are the average times for healing from body piercings.

Piercing Location - Average Healing Time

Nipple - 3 to 6 months -

Eyebrow - 6 to 8 weeks -

Nostril - 2 to 4 months -

Nasal septum - 6 to 8 months -

Nasal bridge - 8 to 10 weeks -

Tongue - 4 weeks -

Lip - 2 to 3 months -

Navel - 4 months to 1 year -

Female genitalia - 4 to 10 weeks -

Male genitalia - 4 weeks to 6 months -

Cheek - 4 to 5 months -

Is this what you really want?

How Do You Get Parts for a Rainbow Vacuum? By Steve McArthur

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Jane owns a Rainbow vacuum cleaner and loves it. Ever since the first night she let Randy, her demonstrator come over and show her and Bill how good the Rainbow vacuum cleaner really is she loved it.

She was amazed at how dirty the water had turned inside the Rainbow vacuum water basin. Randy, her Rainbow vacuum salesman, had just vacuumed a small three foot square area of her light beige carpet after her husband had gone over that spot 50 times, back and forth, with her old vacuum cleaner.

Actually, her old vacuum was brand new, it was only 3 months old. The problem was, according to Randy the Rainbow vacuum guy, that all the little holes in the bag of her old vacuum had stopped up causing it to lose air flow. Air flow?

Jane thought suction was what picked up stuff off the floor. Randy had heard this response dozens if not hundreds of times before so he knew that Jane was playing along according to the script that is played thousands of times a day all across the county.

Only Jane had not rehearsed the play and Randy had. Jane and Bill ended up owning a Rainbow vacuum cleaner that night and have loved the way it has performed ever since. That is until one day when they called Randy to order some more of the Mulberry oil based fragrances.

It made the whole house smell wonderful every time they used their Rainbow vacuum. The problem was that when they called Randy he was not there. Not only was Randy not there but the office number had been disconnected with no forwarding information.

Scenarios like this are common and will continue to be so. The reason it happens is that vacuum cleaner distributors are just like any other direct sales organization.

Sometimes sales are good, sometimes they are so bad that the distributor cannot stay in business so it closes the doors, leaving customers high and dry and no local office to get parts and supplies.

Steve McArthur saw a need for Rainbow vacuum parts and has been filling the need for since 1998 on the web.

The Dreaded Swimsuit By Indra Books

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Very few people, unless they live in an area where they are beach bound all of the time and it is part of the “uniform,” are comfortable picking out a bathing suit for summer, much less wearing one. In an attempt to demystify the process and to help you find the style that will enhance your body, here are a few pointers.

Let’s face it. A bathing suit doesn’t cover much (some less than others) so we can’t hide behind layers of fabric…or can we?

3 Don’ts For Just About Everyone:

  • Boy Shorts or Boy Legs
  • String tie halter tops
  • The big poofy skirted suits

I had a client who wears a size 2 shopping for a suit and she insisted that she wanted boy shorts because they “covered more.” So I decided to humour her and see if she has learned anything from our months of wardrobe shopping. She tried on the bottoms and let out a yelp. “These are just awful,” she replied. And it is true. They are just awful on just about everyone.

String halter-tops fall into that category as well. Unless you have very pert breasts and not very large ones at that, the string halter is a no-no. That would be followed by the poofy (yes, that is a made-up word) skirts. Many older people will buy them out of modesty, as will heavier women. Please don’t. There are other ways to cover up that won’t make you look like a beached whale.

When shopping for a bathing suit, go to a store that has the tops and bottoms separately if you are buying a two-piece. Many of us are not the same size in both places and a swim suit needs to fit properly.

Speaking of two-pieces, who should be wearing what style? Say “no” to the two pieces if there is flab where there shouldn’t be. OK here we go! Hold on to your swim suit!

7 Simple Rules to Choose a Swim Suit:

  1. Choose a color and print that is flattering to your skin tone and body type.
  2. To enhance small breasts, use a print on top with a top that ties behind the neck.
  3. To minimize large breasts, use a tank style top but use caution. Avoid the uni-breast look.
  4. Slim the hips by not having the suit bottom rest on the area you want to minimize.
  5. Long torsos will look longer in a one piece. Try a tankini with a little shin showing in the middle to shorten your body.
  6. Hide a stomach with a one-piece that has a little gathering at the middle (a bit extra fabric).
  7. No waist? Create one with a one piece that is cut out at the sides or that has a sash or belt.

For accessories:

  • Flip flops or sandals with a little heel or thickness will make you look less dumpy as you walk.
  • Wear a sarong or skirt to cover up your legs if you want modesty or are trying to hide your thighs when not in the water. Choose a print or color that is flattering and tie it in a location that does not emphasize a bad area.
  • A cotton gauze or sheer cover up is great for getting from place to place but remember that the sun will go through it. Wear sun block at all times.

We could go on and on about swim wear fashions and styles but the best advice is to go to a specialty store and try on different patterns and styles until you get one that is right for you.

Have a great summer!

What is Your Fashion Style? By Kenia Morales

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

When it comes to clothing do you usually stick to one particular style or should you be called a fashion scientist due to the tremendous amount of attention you pay to trends. It can also be possible that you are not aware of your personal style. Whether you are aware of your style or not read this guide to learn a little bit more about it and what changes you can make (if desire).

1. Sexy Lexis- Lexis is all about wearing clothes that reveal skin such as cleavage and fit extra tight. She may feel that conservative or unrevealing clothing are only for older people. Lexis might need to learn when to tone down her sexy image. For example: She should avoid walking in to church wearing a blouse with a plunging neckline. Unless, she is ready to receive a few dirty looks.

2. Care-Lesley- She wonders: What is Fashion? Can I eat with cheese? She really does not know what the latest trend is and frankly can care less. Lesley should try something new once in a while just for fun and avoid getting stuck on a specific style.

3. Rebellious Chica-She makes her own rules when it comes to fashion. Avoids to all extends looking like everyone else. Just like sexy lexis some circumstances will require toning down her personal style. On a job interview she should conform to the expected attire standards. At least until she lands the job.

4. Fashion Diva-Her middle name is style. Always on top of her image and hates to be seen more than once wearing an outfit. Keeping up with fashion trends can get quite expensive. She needs to watch her finances closely in order to avoid overspending.

5. Sporty Lady- She loves her jeans and sneakers and will not go anywhere with out them. She should play dress up once in a while. This will help her look and feel better, even if the changes are temporary.

6. Comfy Carmen-Carmen is all about comfort. She chooses her attire based on the way it feels. She should steer away from bulky looking shoes that will make her feet look wider or bigger and clothing that fit too loosely. Clothes that are too big will make anyone look heavier and older.

7. Elegant Elenin- Elenin is always dress to impress. She will not allow anyone to see her dressed down. However, it will be beneficial for her to loosen up or dress comfortably once in a while. People can not look perfect all the time.

8. Stuck in time- This type of person does not remember the last time she bought a piece of clothing. She will not stop wearing her clothes until it has a hole in it. She should avoid using the same clothing for too many years until it comes back in style (20 years later).

9. Balanced Brianna- She probably has one of the other personal styles mentioned in this guide but, understands clearly the certain situations require she dresses up or down. She will not be hesitant to try a new style as long as it does not make her look like a fool.
